Prius Sucks

Glad you are alive, Kipsy.

After spending, as you know, $2500 on my 2001 Prius less than a month ago, it stopped working. Latest diagnosis? Catastrophic failure of the hybrid battery system. Cost for parts alone? $4900.

Kind of amazing, isn't it?

I have decided I don't need a car for the next month. I'll just take buses around town until I go to Texas next month, and I'll fly down there with Roothy (the Cat). Momcat said I could use her car while I am there. Maybe I'll buy a new car while I'm down there, and drive back.

Would anyone like to buy a large, green paperweight?

  1. I am so glad I got a plain old ugly hybrid Civic!

You should look into the new Insight that just came out.

  2. Be very careful of buying a car in Texas and trying to take it home. When I was working at Grubbs Nissan, there was a case of someone who was moving to California, so she bought a car in Texas and took it with her, and California wouldn't register it because, being from Texas, it didn't have all the nifty smog removers. As I recall there was a lot of discussion about it. I don't know what she ended up doing, but I imagine she had to sell her car in Texas and buy another one in Ca, or be illegally registered in Texas but living in Ca.

  3. Hmmm... thanks for the warning. I think Cali. might be unique in that regard, but I will double check.

I'm leaning, though, toward buying one here after all. Turns out being without a car for a month isn't quite the picnic I thought it would be (she says, preparing to carry twenty pounds of stuff on the bus, after which she has to walk a mile in the rain to work...)
