Soapy cantaloupe

BC brought me a cantaloupe he bought from a guy selling them out of the back of his truck on the side of the road. It looked and smelled great. I washed, rinsed, and dried it off before I sliced it. It has a soapy taste. I am sure I got all the soap rinsed off before I cut it. Any of you ever had a cantaloupe taste like soap?

  1. My daughter says she has eaten cantaloupe that tastes like soap. Bummer, all the buildup for delicious cantaloupe and then disappointment!!

  2. Luckily, I had just bought one at the store when I came home to find the one BC bought. The second one did not taste like soap.

  3. I used to have customers who would complain that a dish with cilantro in it tasted like soap. I came to the opinion over time that some people have a recessive gene that responds to some chemical in cilantro such that to them, it tastes like soap. Maybe this cantelope had some of that chemical in it; like, perhaps it was grown near cilantro? Do you respond that way to cilantro?

How are people doing in their vegeholism, by the way? I am still eating my daily Jethroes and V-8. Not losing ANY damn weight, which continues to piss me off.

  4. Nope. I love cilantro.

I am doing fine on the vegan thing. My one major weakness is that when the office goes to Zeb's for lunch, I can't resist the fried pickles (like onion rings, only WAY better because they are made with pickle slices instead of onion rings).

I am snacking on fruit more than I used to - which is better I think. I've switched my cardio workouts to the morning before school. 5:30 is just SO EARLY!!!! Then I just do 15 to 30 minutes of strength training in the afternoons (depending on how long the cardio was). My best exercise is still by Tuesday night soccer. It's a solid hour of esentially interval training. I read it burns 600 - 800 calories per hour. I often stay for 1 1/2 hours!

You'd think I could get my weight to drop below 130, but it seems to hover around 132 and just refuses to go lower. A year ago this time, I was weighing aroung 125. Grrrr....
