Costco Coupons!

Does anyone else look forward to getting her Costco coupons in the mail, wanting to sing like the town waiting for the Wells Fargo Wagon in the Music Man?

I wait and wait and wait to refill staples, because I just know that the coupons are going to come and I'll regret it if I buy now. I really hit the goldmine with today's batch: toothbrushes, cat litter, cetaphil cleanser, jet dry, V-8, new pillows for my guest room. I'm bummed, though, that a couple of months ago I broke down and bought a bunch of stuff for which I now have useless coupons: ziplocs, tooth floss, and worst of all, contact lenses ($20 off, dammit!)

What do you hold off buying until a coupon comes along, if anything?

  1. I used to clip coupons, years and years ago, but I found that instead of saving money they really just contributed to my purchasing something I would not have otherwise bought.

  2. I distinguish Costco coupons from regular coupons--Costco sends coupons for many items I would be buying anyway.

But I agree there is an inherent risk of overspending. Like, "Oooh, Sonicare toothbrushes, such a good DEAL!" When of course my regular toothbrushes work just fine at 50 cents a pop. But I've gotten good at avoiding Costco temptation.

  3. I'm also curious about the u-tube clip you attached. Who does those things. Are they film school students and this is a term project or just a bunch of out of work actors and film makers horsing around?

  4. Costco now doesn't require that you actually clip the coupons.

I was bummed a couple of weeks ago, because I saw that TurboTax had a coupon deal ($10 off!) and I had tossed the coupon book already. But when I went through the line, I asked if they had a spare coupon around or something, and the checker said they automatically deduct it from the price at the register!

    That was a nice surprise!

  5. Chip--that's awesome re: the coupons. I've been burned before by not getting my coupons in the mail at all, so I'm happy to hear this.

UncleSam--don't know who they are. But I do know that the women, at least, are cheerleaders. I recognize the moves; they are completely standard-set basic cheerleader moves that I learned in my brief and foolish foray into college cheerleading.
