I don't have a handheld devise to get online. I have to use my super slow dial-up when I can squeeze out a couple of minutes of computer time at home. I haven't been good about my resolutions either. I started putting on weight when I cut out Diet Coke because I snacked instead. So I'm back off the wagon (or is it on? I can never remember). I keep the plastic bottles and recycle them and I drink from cans at home. I do try to cut back.
For lent this year I gave up sweets and TV. I also do Wild Wednesdays where I only eat things that come from the earth directly (fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds) on Wednesday. Nothing processed - no bread or grains since I wouldn't eat a grain that hasn't had something done to it. It's only been a week and a half, but so far so good. I'm on Spring Break this next week. Yay! Rabies shots for all the animals since I will actually have time to take them!
I am dog tired. I got back from Houston last night about midnight and THEN lost an hour from the time change. I skipped Sunday school this morning, but I had to sing in choir at church. I brought a black belt home with me from Houston, though. :-)

What about instead of cans of diet coke you buy 2 litre sizes instead?
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of Wild Wednesdays. That's a good way to cut back on processed foods. (if you did want to include grains remember that corn is a grain and you could also add in sprouts)
Congratulations on your belt! Can you actually wear it with your sports shorts like Muhammed Ali or is it just for decoration?

You should keep a bottle of water handy...get off the sauce (I mean Diet Coke)!! Drinking more water is good for you, and can help you feel full. And if you always have carrot and celery sticks to chew on for snacks, you won't gain weight.
ReplyDeleteSoda, and especially diet sodas, are so BAD for you.
And I read that they have evidence that diet sodas can actually cause you to gain weight, because your body still thinks there's calories when there isn't.
Chip, unless the Coca-Cola Corporation has figured out how to overcome the Laws of Thermodynamics, their beverages cannot "trick" your body into turning non-existent calories into energy (or fat). I have heard that because it tastes sweet, it perpetuates cravings for sweets. I have also heard that its sweet taste can also trigger the same insulin response that actual sugar does, resulting in the same insulin-induced sugar "crash" that regular Coke would cause, leaving you with low blood-sugar and so the desire/need to eat.
ReplyDeleteStill, I'd say Diet Coke is better for you than regular Coke, even though I agree that neither are great for you. Sugary drinks, especially acidic ones, do a stunning number on your teeth--made worse by the fact that you drink it over a long period of time, where with a solid sugar it's a couple of minutes of eating and then done. Apparently, too, although sugary drinks give you lots of calories, and back to the Law of Thermodynamics, your body will store what it doesn't burn, these drinks nevertheless don't satisfy you. So if you ate a Snickers, though it's just sugar junk, at least you won't be as hungry at your next meal. With sugary drinks, apparently, that isn't the case.
Don't ask you how I know all this. I'm embarrassed at how much time I spend reading about shit like this rather than, say, working.

ReplyDeleteOh, I wouldn't put it past 'em, those guys...
